Elmar Hanlhofer has announced the release of Plop Linux 4.2.1, an updated version of the project's distribution built from scratch and designed to rescue data from a damaged system, backup and restore operating systems, and automate tasks: "Plop Linux 4.2.1 released. The i486 version is now the default version to avoid some PAE troubles. The PAE version is still available as an additional version. ClamAV is back in Plop Linux, it's included in the opt.sqfs and it's available as an optional tar.gz package. New ClamAV 0.97.4; updated glib 2.32.1, Linux kernel 3.3.1, Midnight Commander 4.8.2; ISO boot - find ISO image on hard disk bug fix; NFS boot - optional mount parameter bug fix; optional X new and updates to GNOME 3.4, GParted 0.12, MPlayer 2012-03-31, Firefox 11.0, WINE 1.5.1; desktop website icon removed." Changelog: a lot of software updates; support for blind people (brltty, Orca) + preconfigured GNOME version 3.3.91; new developer release + separated X.Org and GNOME archives; documentation completely reorganized and updated; example - live editions as NAS server, media server, printer server; example - Plop Linux Developer edition as base distribution, compile programs; boot scripts updated; new network boot options - TFTP, FTP, HTTP ISO boot ISO from network; locale environments updated; full zoneinfo directory added; PXE configuration simplified; sqfs changed to etc.tgz." From the changelog: "Plop Linux 4.1.2 released. Updated Linux kernel 3.0.1, Nmap 5.51, NTFS-3G 2011.4.12AR.4, OpenSSH 5.8p2, OpenSSL 1.0.0d, Samba 3.5.9, Squashfs 4.2, udev 171, Plop boot manager 5.0.13; setupavg - environment variables set automatically when the user logs in; fpupdate - alias is set to avoid 'Out of memory problem' when running without full path; default kernel compiled for i586 with PAE enabled additional kernel with i486 settings compiled; possible resolv.conf conflict during network boot fixed."
