NEW • Distribution Release: Oracle Linux 5.8 |

Oracle has announced the release of Oracle Linux 5.8, the latest update in the 5.x series of the distribution built from source packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8: "Oracle is pleased to announce the general availability of Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 8 for x86 (32-bit) and x86_64 (64-bit) architectures. Oracle Linux 5.8 ships with following three sets of kernel packages: Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (kernel-uek-2.6.32); Red Hat compatible kernel (kernel-2.6.18); Red Hat compatible kernel with bug fixes added by Oracle (kernel-2.6.18). This update includes the following kernel/driver changes: fix _put_nfs_open_context() NULL pointer panic; fix SCSI hotplug and rescan race; fix filp_close() race; fix missing aio_complete() in end_io; check to see if hypervisor supports memory reservation change...." Oracle has announced the release of Oracle 6.3, an enterprise-class distribution based on the recently-released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3: "Oracle is pleased to announce the general availability of Oracle Linux 6.3 for x86 (32-bit) and x86_64 (64-bit) architectures. Oracle Linux 6.3 ships with two sets of kernel packages: Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (kernel-uek 2.6.39), installed and booted by default; Red Hat Compatible Kernel (kernel-2.6.32), installed by default. By default, both the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and the Red Hat Compatible Kernel are installed. Oracle has announced the release of Oracle Linux 6.2, a clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux which is free to download, but requires a paid contract for security and other updates: "Oracle is pleased to announce the general availability of Oracle Linux 6.2 for x86 (32-bit) and x86_64 (64-bit) architectures. Oracle Linux 6.2 includes both a 32-bit and a 64-bit Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel. By default, both the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and the Red Hat Compatible Kernel are installed. Unbreakable Enterprise kernel shipped in this update has following driver updates: updated igb to version 3.0.6-k, be2net to version 4.0.160r, bna to version 3.0.2.2, bnx2 to version 2.1.11, bnx2x to version 1.70.00-0...." Oracle has announced the release of Oracle Linux 5.7, an enterprise Linux distribution based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.7: "Oracle is pleased to announce the general availability of Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 7 for x86 (32-bit) and x86_64 (64-bit) architectures. Oracle Linux 5.7 ships with following three sets of kernel packages: Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel kernel-uek 2.6.32-200.13.1 (installed and booted by default), Red Hat-compatible kernel 2.6.18-274.el5 (installed by default) and Red Hat-compatible kernel with bug fixes added by Oracle 2.6.18-274.0.0.0.1.el5 (can only be installed manually). This update includes the following kernel/driver changes: Fix put_nfs_open_context() NULL pointer panic; fix SCSI hotplug and rescan race; fix filp_close() race; fix missing aio_complete() in end_io...." Oracle Linux 6.1 ships with two sets of kernel packages: Unbreakable Enterprise kernel installed and booted by default, and Red Hat compatible kernel installed by default. Oracle Linux 6.1 includes both a 32-bit and a 64-bit Unbreakable Enterprise kernel. By default, both the Unbreakable Enterprise kernel and the Red Hat compatible kernel are installed.
