NEW • Distribution Release: Zenwalk Linux 6.4 |
Jean-Philippe Guillemin has announced the release of Zenwalk Linux 6.4, a Slackware-based distribution with the Xfce desktop, custom package management, and many user-friendly features: "Zenwalk Linux 6.4 provides many enhancements at system and application levels, while confirming the maturity and feature stability of Zenwalk. The brand new 2.6.33.4 kernel is featuring the new BFS scheduler, designed for the best desktop interactivity on multi-core CPUs while taking the most of lower specification machines. You'll notice better responsiveness of graphical applications, better real-time performance of sound applications (very low latency), and efficiency of 'niced' commands (compilation tasks can really be niced in a way they don't disturb other applications). Like its predecessor, Zenwalk 6.4 features ext4 as the main file system, and latest versions of most applications and desktop environments." Development Release: Zenwalk Linux 7.2 RC5 |
Jean-Philippe Guillemin has announced the availability of the fifth release candidate for Zenwalk Linux 7.2, a Slackware-based desktop distribution: "Zenwalk Linux 7.2 RC5 is ready for testing. Lately we've been looking towards a better Slackware compatibility, which will make it easy to switch to 64-bit in a near future using the Slackware64 package base. In fact Pat has updated GTK+ 2 and many other packages, added GTK+ 3, making it possible to replace many Zenwalk packages with very little adaptation. The work may not be finished, it's up to you to find any remaining bugs. Main changes: Linux kernel 3.4.8 with BFS scheduler; Xfce 4.10, LibreOffice 3.5, GTK+ 2.24.10 and 3.4.4, Thunderbird 14, GIMP 2.8, Firefox 14.0.1; Netpkg 4.9.1 with multi-mirror support." Distribution Release: Zenwalk Linux 7.0 |
Jean-Philippe Guillemin has announced the release of Zenwalk Linux 7.0, a Slackware-based desktop distribution featuring the new Xfce 4.8 desktop: "Zenwalk Linux 7.0 is available for immediate download. Still desktop, Internet and multimedia oriented, Zenwalk 7.0 is a milestone in the evolution of the distribution. This release brings several major changes at user level and system level. At user level, the Xfce desktop environment has been updated to major version 4.8.1, coming with a new VFS, Xfce 4.8 allows CIFS and SFTP shares browsing through the file manager, making it mostly feature equivalent to GNOME while still a lot faster. The new panel has good support for transparency, and is packaged with many plugins out of the box. We are pleased to announce that OpenOffice.org will be replaced by LibreOffice.". Development Release: Zenwalk Linux 7.0 RC3 |
Jean-Philippe Guillemin has announced the availability of the third and final release candidate for Zenwalk Linux 7.0, a Slackware-based desktop distribution featuring the Xfce desktop: "Zenwalk Linux 7.0 RC3 is ready. Since RC2 we have fixed all reported bugs and the OS seems to be stable, so here we go for RC3, hopefully the last 7.0 release candidate. The kernel was downgraded to 2.6.35.11 (a long-term supported special branch) as we encountered several regressions with 2.6.37. Zenwalk 7.0 will come with Xfce 4.8.1 (stable version, many bugs have been fixed since 4.8.0), and we are pleased to announce that OpenOffice.org will be replaced by LibreOffice which appeared to be more reliable on Zenwalk during our testing process (stability is very important for an office software). We also changed a little bit the way we manage packages, you may have noticed that we no longer provide a 'current' repository." Read the complete release announcement for additional details.
