Development Release: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 Beta |
 |
Red Hat, Inc. has announced the availability of the beta release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.5, a new update of the enterprise-class Linux distribution with long-term support features: "Red Hat is pleased to announce the availability of the beta release of 5.5 (Linux kernel 2.6.18-186.el5) for the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 family of products. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 introduces many bug fixes and enhancements to the system installer (anaconda). The interactive installer has been enhanced, adding the ability to specify additional Network File System (NFS) mount options when installing from an NFS source. Additionally, install sources (e.g. kickstart files) located on password protected File Transport Protocol (FTP) servers can now be retrieved during installation." Read the release announcement and release notes for a comprehensive list of all changes and improvements. As always, existing RHEL 5 installations can be updated through the usual update mechanism, while subscribers to Red Hat Network (RHN) can download the full set of installation ISO images to perform a clean installation. |
