Development Release: Nexenta Core Platform 2.0 RC1 |
| Anil Gulecha has announced the availability of the first release candidate for Nexenta Core Platform 2.0, a base operating system combining the OpenSolaris kernel with Debian utilities and Ubuntu software packages: "This is to announce availability of Nexenta Core Platform 2.0 RC1. The interesting feature addition in this release is experimental 128-bit processor support. We've also fixed many bugs and resolved issues since the last beta. Release highlights: OpenSolaris build 104+ with critical patches; over 13,000 packages in the repository, thanks to the autobuilder; smooth upgrade path from NCP1; community-driven efforts bringing X.Org, Xfce and GNOME Core into the repository; based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) repository; SMF support added for server applications like Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Exim; includes Vim and screen by default; includes apt-clone which brings ZFS power to apt-get." In addition, source based software components can be downloaded from network repositories available at Debian/GNU Linux and Ubuntu Linux. |
