Development Release: GeeXboX 1.2 Beta 3 |
| The third beta release of GeeXboX 1.2, a bootable, Linux-based media player, is now ready for testing: "Here comes beta 3 which is definitely a candidate for 1.2 release. We've performed a huge amount of bug fixes in various areas and were able to correct some longstanding issues we had. Two major changes come with this release: a completely new auto-mounter that now relies on D-BUS and HAL and the restoration of installer feature. Finally you should be able to install GeeXboX again, on both your hard disk drives and USB keys. Other parts of GeeXboX also had a few changes, mostly regarding the player that received a few fixes for audio CDs, DVDs, AAC and RealVideo 9 playback. Changelog: upgraded Linux kernel to 2.6.27.10; upgraded ATI Radeon and RAGE 128 drivers; updated MPlayer to r28184 (provides native RealVideo 9 / RV30 decoder)...." Here is the full release announcement. Download (MD5): geexbox-1.2-beta3-en.i386.glibc.iso (19.0MB), geexbox-1.2-beta3-en.x86_64.glibc.iso (20.4MB). |

| About GeeXboX |
| GeeXboX is a full operating system, running under Linux and based on the excellent MPlayer. No need of hard drive, you just have to put the GeeXboX bootable CD into the CD-Drive of any pentium-class computer to boot it. Moreover, GeeXboX is a free software, created thanks to many open-source software. This means that everyone can modify it and build his own release of the GeeXboX. You may wonder why you could have to boot on another operating system to play your media files, but just think about the Mini-ITX plateforms like VIA Epia/Eden or Shuttle barebones. It's now affordable to bring DivX to your home cinema, plugging this kind of computers directly to your TV. At the time of the first development release (December 2002), it was only able to play DivX movies, but for now, nearly every kind of media files can be played from GeeXboX. |
