Development Release: Nexenta Core Platform 2.0 Alpha 2 |
| Anil Gulecha has announced the availability of the second alpha release of NexentaCore 2.0, a minimalist operating system comprising of a complete OpenSolaris kernel and runtime, along with Debian and GNU toolchains: "This is to announce availability of NexentaCore 2.0 Alpha 2 - Debian native OpenSolaris environment and platform. Release highlights: over 4,500 packages in the repository, this includes latest dpkg/APT, GCC, Binutils, Coreutils, Perl, Python, Ruby, Qt libraries, GTK+ libraries, KDE libraries, Fluxbox; based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 'Hardy Heron'; 100% native Debian environment, easy to upgrade, easy to use; OpenSolaris b85+ based (x86 32-bit and 64-bit, non-debug), with critical patches from b87, b88 and b90; includes Vim by default; includes apt-clone which brings ZFS power to apt-get." Nexenta OS runs on Intel/AMD 32-/64-bit hardware and is distributed as a single installable CD. Upgrades and binary packages not included on the CD can be installed from Nexenta OS repository using Advanced Packaging Tool. In addition, source based software components can be downloaded from network repositories available at Debian/GNU Linux and Ubuntu Linux. |
