Development Release: Hiweed Desktop 2.0 Beta |
| After more than one year of development, the first beta of Hiweed Linux 2.0, a Chinese community distribution based on Ubuntu 8.10, was released. This version cannot be upgraded from the previous Hiweed 1.0 but can only be installed from scratch, and it does not include the brand new OpenOffice.org 3.0 so that the ISO image can be reduced to only 400 MB in size. Features: new Chinese TrueType font and new input method ibus, LXDE as the default desktop, a general-purpose SMplayer 0.6.1 based on MPlayer 1.0rc2, GIMP 2.6.1 with a new user interface, Firefox 3.0.3, various light-weight applications (IDE, file manager, editor, disc burner, email client, and P2P clients), Skype 2.0, and Linux kernel 2.6.27.
