Development Release: Arch Linux 2008.04 RC

A release candidate for Arch Linux 2008.04 is out and ready for testing: "A new batch of install images is currently being uploaded to mirrors. The FTP images have been made available tonight, while the CORE images will be pushed tomorrow night in order to distribute the load. This marks the first release based on a true live Arch system. That is, what's on the images is just a plain old base installation which just happens to boot from a CD or a USB stick. The installer script itself is roughly the same as it has always been. The most noticeable change is the use of UUIDs instead of sdX/hdX entries by default.If you get the chance, please give the images a spin. By the way, the 'RC' status of these images should not be a turn-off if you're looking to install Arch; there's a very good chance they'll work just fine for you." Sobre Arch Linux

Arch Linux es una distribución Linux optimizada para i686. Es de bajo tamaño y contiene las últimas versiones estables de software. Los paquetes están en el formato .tar.gz y están controlados por un administrador de paquetes que está diseñado para permitir actualizaciones de software fáciles. Arch está bastante depurada comparada con otras distribuciones. Las cosas que no se usan habitualmente no se conservan (por ejemplo, las info-pages). Una instalación Arch por defecto te deja con una base sólida; desde allí, puedes añadir paquetes para crear la instalación personalizada que buscas. Arch tiene un sistema de creación de paquetes que te permite crear fácilmente tus propios paquetes. Arch tambien aspira a usar las nuevas características disponibles para los usuarios de Linux, tales como reiserfs/ext3 y devfs.
