KNOPPIX 4.0 Live DVD Torrent Available |
 |
Presented for the first time yesterday at Linux Tag in Karlsruhe, the much awaited "Live DVD" edition of KNOPPIX 4.0 is now available as a BitTorrent download from several sources. The new version contains over 4 GB of compressed files or over 2,600 packages, including the full KDE 3.4.1 and GNOME 2.8.1 desktop environments, OpenOffice.org 2.0 beta, and the usual array of server, development and multimedia applications. The DVD boots into German by default, but this can be changed with the "lang=us" cheatcode (several other languages are also supported). KNOPPIX 4.0 is the largest and most up-to-date live Linux DVD ever produced. The list of currently available torrent files can be found in this Knoppix.net forum post; here is a quick link to one of them: KNOPPIX_V4.0-2005-06-08-LINUXTAG2005-DVD-DE.torrent (4,122MB). Those attending the Linux Tag conference can also obtain the DVD directly from the Knoppix booth for €5.00. |

| About Knoppix |
| Knoppix is a bootable CD with a collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. Knoppix can be used as a Linux demo, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it. |
