The first beta release of ClarkConnect Broadband Gateway is now ready for download and testing: "The ClarkConnect 3.1 beta is available. Major features in 3.1 include: Red Hat Enterprise Linux / CentOS 4 core; LAN and system backup; significant firewall speed improvement; new intrusion detection reports; new intrusion prevention features; peer-to-peer bandwidth shaping; PPTP pass-through mode; content filter phrase list configuration; speakup support ... and a few other changes. |
| ClearOS Enterprise is a server, network, and gateway platform designed for small businesses and distributed enterprise environments. ClearOS Enterprise is based upon ClearOS Core which is a rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The distribution is flexible and includes an extensive list of features and integrated services which can be configured through a web-based interface. Some of the tools found in ClearOS Enterprise include anti-virus, anti-spam, VPN, content filtering, bandwidth manager, file services, SMTP services, print services, SSL certification, and web services. ClearOS includes a marketplace which simplifies the installation of software including 3rd party modules. The distribution is provided as a free download, inclusive of basic OS updates with free registration.

Peter Baldwin has announced the release of ClearOS 6.4.0 "Community" edition, a cloud-connected server, network and gateway operating system designed for homes, hobbyists and small organisations: "ClearOS Community 6.4.0 is now available. Along with the usual round of bug fixes and enhancements, this release introduces a new reports engine, a storage manager, an anti-malware file scanner, RADIUS, a basic POP/IMAP server, and mail retrieval. What's next? After a bumpy start with ClearOS 6, we are now happy with the stability and maturity of the version. Version 6 required a major overhaul under the hood, but it provided ClearOS with a modern and secure web application platform. So what's currently in the pipeline? Peter Baldwin has announced the release of the second beta of ClearOS 6.4 "Community" edition, a CentOS-based server, network and gateway operating system designed for homes, hobbyists and small organisations: "ClearOS Community 6.4.0 Beta 2 has arrived. Along with the usual round of bug fixes and enhancements, this release introduces a new reports engine, a storage manager, an anti-malware file scanner, RADIUS, a basic POP/IMAP server, mail retrieval (Fetchmail) as well as upstream proxy support. Over the last few weeks, there was a lot of focus on squashing bugs and improving little usability issues. From the modernized installer to the easy to use Marketplace, ClearOS 6 has matured to be our best offering. It's not only the core platform that has had a facelift, but also the individual apps and solutions. A lot of time, resources and development have gone into making ClearOS the best next generation small business server and gateway. The underlying framework was redesigned to make it easy to create new and innovative applications. The new Marketplace now provides a quick way to install both open-source and paid applications. There's also 64-bit support, a shiny new graphical installer, improved usability, better VM support, a modernized build system, and the migration to the latest upstream 6.x version. Peter Baldwin has announced the availability of the first release candidate for ClearOS 6.2, a specialist server distribution based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2: "ClearOS Community 6.2.0 release candidate 1 has arrived. Along with the usual round of bug fixes and enhancements, RC1 includes the following new applications: Remote Server Backup, Web Server, Certificate Manager, User Certificates, User Profile, OpenVPN and Dashboard. End users can now login to the web-based administration tool to change their passwords and manage their security certificates. For those of you who missed the recent announcement, ClearOS now comes in two different flavors: Community and Professional. New applications in the Professional edition include: Google Apps Synchronization, Active Directory Connector and Central Management. This will be the last beta as we head toward a final release. Hey, what happened to the version number - wasn't it version 6.1.0? Well, the latest ClearOS release is built on source code from a prominent North American Linux vendor. This upstream vendor released their 6.2 update earlier this month and we quickly followed suit. For the curious, you can find more information on ClearOS version numbering here. Along with the release of more than a dozen new applications, this release continues the process of creating a stable base system - installer, RPM packages, users, groups, system tools, LDAP, network, firewall, framework, and Marketplace." Development Release: ClearOS 6.1 Alpha 1 "Core" |

Dave Loper has announced the availability of the first alpha release of ClearOS 6.1 "Core" edition. Previously ClearOS was a small distribution for network and gateway servers, but starting with this release, the project now also offers a full-featured operating system for servers and workstations built from source packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux. From the release announcement: "ClearFoundation announces the release of ClearOS Core 6.1 Alpha 1. This release is intended for testing and proof of concept for the new line of operating systems for servers and workstations. ClearOS Core is an enterprise Linux distribution for server and desktop environments. The goal is to provide near binary equivalence and functionality that exists in the upstream distribution, including bugs. Additionally, ClearFoundation strives to release versions, updates and patches in a timely and professional manner (the goal for updates is 48 hours or less)."
