A new release candidate of the upcoming GoboLinux 012 has been released for last minute testing: "Containing small enhancements and some bug fixes, GoboLinux 012rc2 is available for download. This version is planned to be tagged 012 final on May 30. Main changes since 012rc1: auto-detection of xorg.conf is fixed; Firefox (1.0.4) and Thunderbird (1.0.2) updates; addition of .chroot script; De_de translations updates; versions of BootScripts, Manager and ConfigTools were renamed to 'stable numbers'." Carlo Calica has announced the availability of a minor point release of GoboLinux, version 014.01: "We are very happy to introduce GoboLinux 014.01, the new release of GoboLinux, the Linux distribution with an alternative file system structure. This release is our first 'point release', providing a stability update for our latest major version, GoboLinux 014, which was released three months ago. Overview: the CD serves both as an installation disc and a live CD, with a complete graphical desktop featuring KDE 3.5.8, OpenOffice.org 2.3.1 and a host of applications; features an installer that works on both text and graphical mode; features a udev-based hardware detection system." Carlo Calica has announced a beta release of GoboLinux 014.01, a desktop Linux distribution featuring a radically redesigned file system hierarchy: "I'm proud to announce GoboLinux 014.01-beta1. This is shaping up to be a pretty solid release. Please test this thoroughly; we'll be pressing 4,000 CDs for the International Forum on Free Software and the deadline is April 1st. Major changes: PostInstall working; OpenSSH keygen moved to task; scripts 2.8.4 branch snapshot - manpage and other fixes; X.Org 7.2-r6- fixes xcb lock for Skype; OpenOffice.org 2.3.1 - xdg entries and correct symbolic links; MPlayer 1.0rc2 - subtitle font symbolic link fixed and security update; KDE - a kdmrc fix to existing package; Subversion now supports http:// URLs; APR and APT-Utils updated for Subversion. Hisham Muhammad has announced the release of GoboLinux 014, an independent distribution whose main claim to fame is a radically redesigned file system layout: "We are pleased to introduce GoboLinux 014, the new major release of GoboLinux, the Linux distribution with an alternative directory structure. This release is the result of over a year of work. The live CD build environment is highly customizable and packages were built using a dynamically-generated sand-boxed environment which insulates the source code and its dependencies during compilation. Lucas Villa Real has announced the first release candidate for GoboLinux 014, a desktop Linux distribution with a radically overhauled file system layout: "The first release candidate for GoboLinux 014 is out! Among other things, it includes a massive update of packages, including glibc 2.5, X.Org 7.2, GCC 4.1.2 and KDE 3.5.6, with Linux kernel 2.6.20.4 + UTF-8 support. We have now a better printing support, with a few basic drivers included in the live CD. And there were many, many bug fixes in the GoboLinux tools since 013, so we hope to provide a better experience for you all." The new live CD build environment is highly customizable and package building was overhauled by using a dynamically-generated sandboxed environment which insulates the source code and its dependencies during compilation. These under-the-hood improvements resulted in cleaner builds when bringing the package set up-to-date: major upgrades include X.Org 7.1, KDE 3.5.3, glibc 2.4 and GCC 4.1.1." The first release candidate of GoboLinux 012 is now available for download and testing: "And finally.... 012rc1. After considerable improvements regarding device management (new version of udev and hotplug), GoboLinux 012rc1 is available for download. Hardware-related configuration scripts were also reorganized, and are now concentrated in a 'ConfigTools' package. Many tests and stability enhancements were performed last two weeks, giving this ISO a release candidate status. 012 final is planned to no latter that 30/05 (hard deadline).
