Development Release: LormaLinux 5.0 RC1 |
| This is the first release candidate of LormaLinux 5: "LormaLinux 5 RC1 released. Based on Fedora Core 2 and optimised for i686 architecture and above, Lormalinux 5 features extremely simple installation for education and workstation users on just one CD. RC1 changes include updated and recompiled for i686: kernel 2.6.7 with NTFS and local APIC support, OpenOffice.org 1.1.1, K3B 0.11.11, KDE 3.2.3, Synaptic with repositories, Gaim 0.78-7; Autofs - automatic mounting and unmounting of floppy drive; Flash, Java, MPlayer plugins for Mozilla Firefox; new and improved KDE look; most packages are updated to latest stable versions and recompiled for i686...." | LormaLinux is developed by the MIS Department of Lorma Colleges in the Philippines. It is built on top of Red Hat Linux - recompiled and optimized for the i686 computers, so it is faster and leaner. Perfect as a workstation and it comes on only 1 CD. It also contains software from the Linux Terminal Server Project (LTSP) for setting up diskless workstations. It uses KDE for its desktop environment and is constantly being updated. LormaLinux is a full-featured Linux distribution specifically made for ease of use and functionality. |
