NEW • Two SUSE LINUX 9.0 Reviews |
Two SUSE LINUX reviews have been published over the last few days. Although neither of them has managed to get the spelling of SUSE LINUX right, they are still worth a read. ExtremeTech: "In the great pantheon of Linux distributions, SUSE 9 Professional occupies a venerable spot. It's packed with programs, developer tools, and terrific desktops." Sumeet M Moghe's: "Overall SUSE 9.0 Professional has given me a lot more smiles than frowns and I must confess I have had a lot of fun. If there would be a serious complaint I would have against SUSE, that would just be because of the fact that SUSE, unlike other distros, doesn't allow distribution under the GPL."

Development Release: openSUSE 13.1 Milestone 1 |
The development of openSUSE 13.1, the distribution's next stable release whose availability is tentatively scheduled for early November 2013, has commenced with the initial milestone build: "openSUSE is pleased to announce that the newest milestone of the upcoming version of openSUSE 13.1 is available for testing. As an early version, it is expected that this milestone is not fully functional or very stable and we welcome bug reports and fixes for the issues. This is the first in a series of upcoming updates to the distribution that will end with the final release of 13.1 projected by November of 2013. As usual with an alpha release, the most prominent changes in openSUSE 13.1 milestone 1 come from the upgrades that packages are going through, e.g. GNOME 3.8.1, Apache HTTP server 2.4.3, Linux kernel 3.9, LibreOffice 4.0.2, X.Org Server 1.14.1." Development Release: openSUSE 12.3 RC2 |
Jos Poortvliet has announced the availability of the second and final release candidate for openSUSE 12.3: "The openSUSE release team has released RC2 to the mirrors a few hours ago. A large number of bugs have been fixed and a number of packages have been updated. Major changes include PulseAudio, the kernel and Firefox. This is the last opportunity to find and fix the last few bugs before the final release." Development Release: openSUSE 12.3 Milestone 1 |
Will Stephenson has announced the availability of Milestone 1, which is the second official test build on the way to the stable openSUSE 12.3: "News fresh from the Factory - the openSUSE release team has made the openSUSE 12.3 Milestone 1 available for testing and feedback. There has been lots of plumbing in the infrastructure, with most prominently the removal of SuSEconfig - the capitalization of its name should give a hint about its age. If you want to get a taste of the upcoming release or want to help test and develop this awesome, green Linux distribution - come and get it! With Milestone 1, things start getting interesting. For starters, the init system continues to evolve rapidly. SysVinit has now been removed, following some discussion." Read the rest of the release announcement to learn more.
