NEW • Development Release: Nexenta OS Alpha 6 |
| The sixth development release of the OpenSolaris-based, desktop-oriented Nexenta OS has been released: "Nexenta OS ('elatte') Alpha 6 is now available. Release Highlights: Nexenta Zones - opens the possibility to create custom zones and pre-install with selected software; integrated BrandZ - allows running Linux userland; SVR4 packaging - to install native Solaris packages (missing drivers, etc.) In addition, Alpha 6 contains: SUN_PERSONALITY - for those who need to run native Solaris software; updated GNOME artwork from Ubuntu Edgy; security updates from Ubuntu Dapper LTS; installer improvements; many fixes and various package updates; OpenSolaris build 50, with numerous kernel fixes and features (such as BrandZ, initial DRM support, etc.)" Visit the project's download page for more information. | Nexenta OS is a free and open source operating system combining the OpenSolaris kernel with GNU application userland. Nexenta OS runs on Intel/AMD 32-/64-bit hardware and is distributed as a single installable CD. Upgrades and binary packages not included on the CD can be installed from Nexenta OS repository using Advanced Packaging Tool. In addition, source based software components can be downloaded from network repositories available at Debian/GNU Linux and Ubuntu Linux. |
